Pilot training isn’t limited solely to manuals, simulators, and flight hours. Understanding the real-life workings of a major airline is essential for broadening our students’ professional and technical vision. That’s why, recently, students on Flyschool Air Academy’s integrated ATPL course had the unique opportunity to visit Iberia’s maintenance facilities in La Muñoza, Madrid.
During the day, the students toured three key areas of the complex: the engine hangar, the test bench, and the imposing Hangar 6.
In the engine workshop, they learned firsthand about the inspection, maintenance, and repair process for the engines that power the fleet’s aircraft. They were able to observe the level of precision, specialization, and responsibility that goes into working with such critical components. Each task is carefully documented and carried out by highly qualified technicians, backed by decades of experience and cutting-edge technology.
The engine test bench was impressive due to its technical complexity. This is where the engines are evaluated outside the aircraft to ensure they meet all parameters before being reinstalled. It is a highly secure environment, combining engineering, power, and absolute control.
The visit culminated in Hangar 6, one of Iberia’s largest hangars, where major inspections (C and D checks) are performed on wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A330 and A350. Our students were able to see how each part of the aircraft is disassembled, inspected, and serviced in an exhaustive process that guarantees the safety and reliability of each flight.
In addition to the technical aspects, our students were also able to speak with some of the maintenance personnel, who shared their experience, their background, and the vital role they play in the company’s daily operations. It was a lesson in the importance of teamwork in the aeronautical world and an opportunity to further appreciate the work performed by professionals on the ground.
At Flyschool Air Academy, we would like to sincerely thank Iberia for opening their facilities to us, for the excellent service we received, and for the passion with which they shared their work with our future pilots. These types of experiences are essential for connecting training with the real world of the industry and further motivating our students on their path to professional aviation.
Thank you, Iberia, for being part of training the next generation of pilots!
